Research Title

Project Tlaloc: ¨Implementation of the bamboo Moso (Phyllostachys edulis) with the hydroponics technique¨

Research Abstract

Hydroponics is an artificial cultivation method that does not require water and offers many benefits. One of the earliest examples of a similar method is the “chinampa.” This technique enabled the “Mexica” civilization to thrive on a lake, which is now known as Mexico City, the capital of Mexico. The foundations and advantages of “chinampa” and hydroponics are key to addressing challenges in traditional agriculture, including soil erosion, dependence on the rainy season, overuse of freshwater, limited space, and the need to increase food production to meet global overpopulation. It is essential to explore this project; this article presents a new method using bamboo Moso (Phyllostachys edulis). The innovation of this prototype is that it is fully biodegradable, unlike conventional methods that use PVC—containing chemicals harmful to health—and plastics. The construction of this prototype will adapt existing functional models with some modifications to improve efficiency and suit the organic materials used.
